I absolutely love New Year and making New Year’s Resolutions. It’s a chance to wipe the slate clean or try something new. I usually like to try something different every year. Last year it was veganuary (Vegan January) which my friends have advised me that I am absolutely, under no circumstances allowed to try again this year. Thinking I’d been rather chilled out last January, I’d conveniently forgotten about my meltdown after remembering there was lactose in the ibuprofen tablets I’d just taken. Or discovering wine was not generally vegan….This year I’m determined to keep my friends by avoiding any crazy dietary regimes and instead work on my sewing plans.
2018 sewing plans – because there’s nothing quite like writing down your goals…
Firstly, I’m going to get back into writing and blogging about my sewing makes. I’ve really missed being part of the online sewing community. So I’ve started by redesigning my blog. There might still be a few missing pictures here and there but I’m slowly going through the old posts and checking they’re ok.
Secondly, this year I’d like to sew more. No more promising to sew things for people when I already have precious little free time.
Over the years I’ve often thought about how i could streamline my wardrobe into more of a capsule wardrobe or if not actually being able to minimise it then to curate it more. I’d also like to push myself to develop my own bespoke patterns because well if you don’t use a skill that you have then you’ll lose it and I often think what is the point in me buying a sewing pattern if I am going to have to alter it anyway (FBA/lengthening etc…) when I can make it myself.
So with that in mind, this year I’d like to make the following either from an existing sewing pattern or drafted by myself…
- A tailored blazer
- A vintage inspired (or vintage pattern) dress
- A fitted white shirt
- A fitted shirt dress
- A pencil skirt
- Something from Pattern Magic
- A cocktail dress
- A camel coat
- Tailored trousers
