About Me

profile photo2

I’ve been craft obsessed since I was a child! Encouraged by my wonderful grannies to be creative and try my hand at making lace, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch and all sorts of other things. I was always taught to just give things a go and see how they turn out.

Sewing for me is my creative release from a not particularly creative day job. I love making clothes and especially lingerie. I am obsessed with fabrics, notions, buttons, patterns and laces and spend most of my free time thinking of these things!

Hi Jennie, Thanks for your comment! We’re pretty lucky here in London with our fabric shops – my personal favourites are the Goldhawk Road and my local fabric shop. A really great guide to fabric shops in London can be found over on the DIY Couture website here. She does great patterns too!
I would advise avoiding the shops in Soho though – these are very expensive! Goldhawk Road and East London are much cheaper. There is also Macculloch and Wallis and John Lewis – I wouldn’t bother with them though, again because M&W is pretty expensive and John Lewis just doesn’t have very exciting fabric choices and is also expensive too. I hope that helps, I hope you have a lovely visit to London!

Hey. I have just come across your blog. I really want to get into making lingerie and am also based in London. Where did you do your course? Was it worth the money?

    Thanks,
    Fran

    Hi Fran,

I did my lingerie course at Kensington and Chelsea college but they have since stopped doing it there. You could try Morley College in Waterloo or London College of Fashion. Morley will be cheaper than the LCF. I think these courses definitely are of value if you are keen to get into lingerie – whether that be building up a portfolio to get into a contour fashion degree, setting up your own business or making it for yourself!

    • Fran says:

Hey. Its a shame they stopped doing that. I have done a couple of short courses at LCF and I’m enrolled on the Morley College ones but I wanted something a bit longer or more intense. The plan is to set up a business. Im Doing an access course at LCF at the moment but the fees are so high because I’ve already got a degree and it means i can’t get loans.

Are you planning on getting into any such thing or just enjoy making things with pretty lace?

    Hi Freya,

I have a design for a piece of clothing I’d like to do a sample of, made from a breathable waterproof material. The problem is I don’t have a clue how to cut patterns or sew!!

Would you, or do you know of anyone who would be able to create/ produce a prototype/ sample. Your advice would be great.

    Will

      Hi Will,

I’m afraid I don’t do any pattern cutting. Perhaps your best bet is to go into a fabric shop and ask there. People very often advertise their services there or the sales staff will know people. Perhaps approach your local fashion college and leave an advert on the student noticeboards, I’m sure you’d find lots of students willing to earn a bit of extra cash. Hope that helps.

    Hi there

I love the fabric with the green black and white birds on it. Do you know where I might be able to get it from?

    I am in Manchester, England.

    Thanks

    Paula

      Hi Paula,

The fabric you mean, grey linen background with black/green birds is from prestigious textiles. It’s stocked in a lot of shops but you could look them up and see where your nearest dealer is. I bought mine from Fabrics Galore in South London. Hope that helps.

    Hello there,

you have beautiful corsets. I live near Morley College and was wondering will you be attending the next corset class in April. I would like to meet a fellow like minded person and be able to have “normal” conversation.lol.

Thanks for the pleasure of your work

    Josephine

Sorry, I’ve only just replied to this comment! I won’t be on that course but you never know I may pop up at Morley another time, they do offer some really interesting courses and I love meeting new people there!
