I’ve been on a small hiatus with the Colette Lady Grey Coat and the Colette Macaron dress whilst I waited for some black silk organza and some more chest canvas. In the meantime though I promise I have not been slacking!
Back in October I started a lingerie course, it’s a year long course (academic year) and I am really enjoying it. I have been learning a lot about fabric types and finishes. We’ve been learning about how industry works and the principles to putting together a collection. And we’ve been perfecting our sewing skills – sewing different types of silk is a whole different kettle of fish compared to normal fashion fabrics used in garment construction. It’s been fun but also incredibly frustrating!!! (Especially when re-doing a rouleau strap for what seems to be the hundredth time!)
I have to produce three garments by the end of the year which will then be assessed at the end. The first garment for me is a camisole – we had a choice between a couple of different camisoles and some soft bras. I have chosen to make a simple camisole with bustline gathers. (Oh, I thought it was simple 🙂 )
Here’s me trying to work out the lace placement on my muslin – I am still really undecided about how I am going to do it:
